What is KC14?

KC14 is a coloured plaster for interior walls and ceilings. KC14 is finished with a specially developed Topcoat, which gives the surface a dust-repellent and washable finish. To achieve the best possible result, we recommend that both private customers and professionals read our written guide and watch our video guide before starting the application.

Which surfaces can KC14 be applied to?

KC14 can be applied to interior walls and ceilings. The substrate must be firm, even, dry, and uniformly absorbent to achieve the best result.

KC14 can be applied to filled surfaces, lining paper, painted walls, and glass-fibre wallpaper following proper preparation. KC14 is not recommended for wet rooms or surfaces in direct contact with water.

Can KC14 be applied to furniture?

No, KC14 is developed for smooth, even and equally absorbent surfaces and should not be applied to furniture or other decorative objects.

How do I prepare the surface for KC14?

Uneven surfaces must be levelled and primed before application. The substrate must be firm, dry, and equally absorbent to achieve the best result.

How is KC14 applied?

KC14 is applied using a filling knife. Apply KC14 in an even, covering layer of approx. 1 mm thickness, applying the product in one continuous process without interruption. Allow KC14 to dry for a min. of 16h before hand-sanding the surface with 180-grit sandpaper. Remove the dust, then apply the 2. layer of KC14. Allow it to dry for another 16-16h, hand-sand again, remove the dust, and then apply 2 coats of Topcoat.

How long does it take to apply KC14?

KC14 is applied in two layers, and due to the product's drying time, one coat can generally be applied per day. We therefore recommend allowing approx. 3 days for a wall project. The total working time depends on the size of the project.

How many m² does KC14 cover?

One set consists of 9 L of KC14 and 1 L of Topcoat. One set covers approx. 5–7 finished m², including 2 layers of KC14 and 2 coats of Topcoat.

Does KC14 require additional surface treatment?

No, KC14 does not require any additional surface treatment on ordinary walls and ceilings, apart from the Topcoat that comes with the plaster.

If a more durable surface is required in areas subject to frequent cleaning and increased wear, DETALE Strongcoat can be added as an optional treatment. We recommend applying DETALE Strongcoat once the 2. coat of Topcoat is completely dry. You can find inspiration for applying DETALE Strongcoat in our Tips & Tricks videos on the website.

Can KC14 be used in bathrooms and wet rooms?

KC14 is a decorative product for walls and ceilings and does not have wet-room certification. Therefore, KC14 is not recommended in shower areas or on surfaces exposed to direct contact with water.

On walls where frequent cleaning is expected, DETALE Strongcoat can be applied after the 2. coat of Topcoat. DETALE Strongcoat makes the surface more durable and washable but does not replace a wet-room-approved solution.

Can KC14 be repaired and maintained?

KC14 with Topcoat has a tactile surface that can be cleaned like a painted surface with a gloss 10. Minor marks can often be removed with a damp cloth, and the surface can be cleaned with mild cleaning detergents. KC14 can be maintained with Topcoat, diluted with 70% water and 30% Topcoat.

Due to the dust-repellent properties of Topcoat, a new layer of product will not adhere properly, meaning that local repairs will be visible. The Topcoat must therefore be sanded off before the area can be repaired. Spot repairs may also be visible, so we recommend lightly sanding the Topcoat across the entire surface before applying primer and a new layer of KC14. Once dry, sand the surface and finish with Topcoat. This ensures the best possible result.

What is the difference between KC14 and KABRIC?

KC14 and KABRIC are both products that create textured and tactile surfaces, but they differ in appearance, application technique, and drying time.

KC14 is a coloured plaster that creates a mineral and refined look with a smoother finish. KC14 is finished with a specially developed Topcoat and has a longer drying time than KABRIC.

KABRIC is a texture paint that creates a more rustic and livelier look. KABRIC can be used on a wider range of surfaces, including furniture, whereas KC14 is primarily developed for uniform surfaces such as walls and ceilings.

Is KABRIC environmentally certified?
