KABRIC Chestnut

In a Victorian building in central London, Ferm Living has created a showroom experience at a slower pace. Visitors encounter the collection in rooms with the intimacy of a home rather than an open exhibition space. Successive alterations had left the building disjointed, yet its proportions, exposed brickwork and worn pine floorboards retained a distinct character. DETALE KABRIC in Chestnut brings the rooms together across walls and ceilings. The colour continues onto trims and window surrounds, allowing the architecture to read as a coherent whole.
“We wanted the showroom to feel like a home away from home, with the colours and atmosphere of a Danish home. It should feel comfortably you - a place where you can imagine living with our pieces, rather than simply looking at them.”
For Phillipp Materna, Head of Brand and Design at Ferm Living, a central task was to create visual coherence among the small, architecturally distinct rooms without erasing the building’s irregularities and character. The walls needed to provide a calm backdrop for the collection without feeling anonymous or overly pristine. Colour and texture therefore became essential to balancing the existing architecture with the identity of the brand. KABRIC Chestnut was applied with a cross-brush finish that gives the surface a subtle, living variation. Light is caught and absorbed differently according to where one stands and the time of day. The continuous colour across walls, ceilings and details softens visual interruptions, while the texture preserves the rooms’ material presence.
The restored pine floorboards still bear traces of time and use. The warmth and irregularities of the wood meet the more subdued surfaces in KABRIC Chestnut, while the exposed brickwork preserves a connection to the building’s history. Together, these materials form a calm setting for the collection’s wood, metal, glass, stone and textiles. The showroom’s intimate proportions and appointment-only visits allow guests to experience the pieces in a setting that feels like a home. Where the building’s distinctive London character meets the tactile surfaces, Ferm Living’s Danish sensibility takes shape: warm, inviting and personal.
“We wanted a finish that could connect the rooms while retaining the building’s irregularities and character. The walls needed to provide a calm backdrop for the collection without feeling anonymous.”
