Can anyone apply KC14?
You don’t need any experience to apply KC14. The products are user-friendly, fostering a do-it-yourself culture. When purchasing products, a detailed user guide is enclosed, which we recommend you read through, before you start the process. You can find the user guide here. Our instruction videos are very helpful as well.
How many finished m2 does KC14-products give?
One ‘Set’ consists of 10L KC14 + 1L Topcoat. KC14 covers 5-7m2 (this calculation includes 2 layers of plaster and 2 layers of topcoat).
How long does it take to finish up one wall with KC14?
Due to the product's drying times, one layer of plaster can be applied daily. Therefore, we recommend you estimate 3 days for your wall project. The time it takes to apply the layers, depends on one’s experience and technique.
Can KC14 be refitted and mended?
Trying to cover up plaster on already plastered areas will always be visible to some extent. Therefore, we recommend you avoid reconstructing specific areas. If it can’t be avoided, and you still need to do some “damage control”, the area should be covered with tape, plastered, and sanded before topcoat is applied. If you want to cover up small holes, plaster can be applied, and topcoat applied at the end.
Tip:
If you have got plaster leftovers, store it in a plastic bag to keep oxygen from entering. Make sure that storage conditions are cool but never below 0 degrees Celsius. That way you have some extra for future repairs.
How can KC14 be upheld and maintained?
With 2 layers of topcoat, the KC14-plasters give a dust repellent surface, equivalent to paint with shine 10. With frequent cleanse and over time, a new layer of topcoat can be applied for maintenance. Mixing 70 % water and 30 % topcoat, you can easily maintain your wall.
Where can KC14-products be applied?
KC14 is developed for interior walls, not in direct contact with water. We do not recommend the use of KC14-products behind a stove due to the risk of stains.
Can KC14 be applied in basements?
Due to the risk of humidity, we do not recommend DETALE-products in basements. Our products are not adequately vapour-permeable, for this purpose.
To which surfaces can KC14-products be applied?
The surface on which KC14-products are to be applied must be smooth, dry, equally absorbent, and sustainable. KC14 can be applied directly on to plaster, felt and even wall-painted surfaces. If in doubt, you should prime the base before beginning.
KC14 can be applied directly on glass fabric, but a more affordable solution would be to even out the surface first, with a regular wall filler. We advise that wallpaper is removed. However, if you are 100% sure that your wallpaper is thoroughly attached to your wall, you can apply KC14.
You can find our video on the application on ingrain wallpaper here.
What is the difference between KC14, KABRIC and SPACE?
KC14 is a coloured filler, KABRIC is a decorative paint and SPACE is a metal paste. All three products are decor product for walls, but the preparation work, the application process and the finishing result are different from each other. We, therefore, recommend that you learn about the different structures and application techniques the three different products have, before purchasing.
Can a KC14-wall be renewed?
Yes! If you wish to renew the look of your wall, you can easily change an existing KC14-wall. Whether you would like to i.e. paint or apply felt, you only have to sand the wall with crass sandpaper and apply a suitable primer before you start your renovation.
Is KC14 ecolabelled?
KC14 has the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, the official Nordic Ecolabel, ensuring sustainable procurement and high quality for your surfaces. Apart from being an ecolabel, criteria for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel also include quality requirements, ensuring a sustainable product, while the quality and durability of the product live up to high standards. When purchasing products, a detailed user guide is enclosed which we recommend you read through, before you start the process. You can choose to apply KABRIC using a paintbrush or a filling knife. We recommend you read the user guide.
How many m2 does KABRIC cover?
KABRIC comes in 10L buckets that covers 8-10 finished sq. meters (2 layers) and 3L buckets that covers 3-4 finished sq. meters (2 layers).
How long does it take to finish up one wall with KABRIC?
Due to few processes and the short drying times, a KABRIC wall can be done in one day. The time it takes to apply the layers, depends on one’s experience and technique.
Does a KABRIC wall demand Topcoat or other surface treatment?
Topcoat or Strongcoat varnish can be chosen additionally and is not included when you purchase KABRIC. For most walls, it will not be necessary, but if KABRIC is applied to a wall exposed to great wear and tear, it can be an advantage. Due to the risk of stains behind a stove, we recommend using our varnish Strongcoat Matt/Silk or the 2-component Strongcoat Extra, depending on your needs. If you are applying KABRIC to another creative DIY project, such as furniture, we recommend one of our Strongcoats or a similar varnish for mineral surfaces as well.
Can KABRIC be refitted and mended?
Trying to cover up scratches on already applied areas will always be visible to some extent. Therefore, we recommend you avoid reconstructing specific areas on your KABRIC wall.
Tip:
If you have KABRIC leftovers, store it in a plastic bag to keep oxygen from entering. Make sure that storage conditions are cool but never below 0 degrees Celsius. That way you have some extra for future repairs or projects.
How can KABRIC be upheld and maintained?
Due to the vivid surface, KABRIC-walls are easy to uphold. A KABRIC-surface can be cleaned equivalent to paint with shine 5. If you prefer a surface with more durability, Strongcoat Matt/Silk varnish can be purchased additionally. This is also recommended, if your wall is exposed to great wear and tear or requires frequent cleaning.
Where can KABRIC be applied?
KABRIC is developed for interior walls and ceilings, not in direct contact with water. We do not recommend KABRIC behind a stove without supplementary treatment, due to the risk of stains.
Can KABRIC be applied on furniture?
Yes, KABRIC can be applied on furniture, but it requires a protective surface that can withstand repeated contact with people and objects. After applying KABRIC, we recommend that the surface is sanded soft and smooth and that a matt varnish is applied. The surface, just like for walls, must be smooth, sustainable, dry, and equally absorbent. Depending on what material your furniture is made of, we recommend that you sand the object well and soft, and that you apply a suited primer to optimize your preparation.
Can KABRIC be applied in basements?
Due to the risk of humidity, we do not recommend DETALE-products in basements. Our products are not adequately vapour-permeable, for this purpose.
On to which surfaces can KABRIC be applied?
The surface on which KABRIC is to be applied must be smooth, dry, equally absorbent, and sustainable. KABRIC can be applied directly onto plaster, felt and even wall-painted surfaces, if the wall is equally absorbent. If in doubt, you should prime the base before beginning.
KABRIC can be applied directly to glass fabric, but a cheaper and more effective solution is to cover it with a filler and prime the surface before KABRIC is applied. We advise that wallpaper is removed. However, in many cases where the wallpaper is properly attached to the wall, KABRIC can be applied on wallpaper as well. You can find our video on the application process here. To watch our video for application on ingrained wallpaper click here

Can I apply KABRIC Floor myself?
KABRIC floor can be applied by anyone, DIY people, and professionals. When you buy the product, it comes with a detailed user guide, which we recommend that you read through before starting the process. You can find the user guide here.
How many m2 will the KABRIC Floor system cover?
Type in your choices in our calculator and see how many units of each component you need for your project. Our calculator can be found here.
What kind of surfaces can KABRIC Floor be applied to?
Tiles: Uneven surfaces such as tiles should be levelled out to an even surface with Smooth Prepare before KABRIC Floor is applied.

Parquet: Prepare and Smooth Prepare can both be used on parquet flooring. If you want to be absolutely sure, that the parquet flooring is not faintly visible through the final result, Smooth Prepare must be used.

Concrete: Prepare is recommended on concrete if the concrete flooring is 100% even. Should there be any dents, holes, or irregularities in the surface, or if the surface is rough, Smooth Prepare should be used to level out the surface, before priming the entire area with Prepare.

Linoleum: Prepare and Smooth Prepare can both be used on linoleum. We recommend Prepare if the surface is completely even.

Terrazzo: Prepare and Smooth Prepare can both be used on terrazzo. We recommend Prepare if the surface is completely even without any holes or repairs.

Laminate: Prepare and Smooth Prepare can both be used on laminate. We recommend Prepare if the surface is completely even.
Which primer should I choose?
The KABRIC Floor system consists of two primers, which are very different. The most important thing is that you choose the primer that best suits your project.

If you have a 100% smooth surface, you can settle for Prepare, which is the simplest, fastest, and cheapest solution. But if you have an uneven floor, or e.g., a tile floor, then use Smooth Prepare + Smooth Prepare Filler. Smooth Prepare is an epoxy primer which, with the additional Filler, levels out irregularities, provides good adhesion and hardens very well.

You can read more about choosing the right primer for your project in this blogpost and calculate how much primer you will need for your project in our calculator here.
Which varnish should I choose?
You can choose between three types of varnish for your KABRIC Floor project.

Strongcoat Matt and Strongcoat Silk are ready-to-use varnishes, which are easy to apply, and give a beautiful and robust surface. If you choose one of these two, you do not need to mix a varnish base with a hardener.

Strongcoat Extra is a 2-component varnish providing an ultra-matte finish.

Make sure to use all the varnish that comes with your order and apply it to a completely even surface with no irregularities for the best and most washable result. You can calculate how much varnish you need for your project here. You can also read more about choosing varnish in this blogpost.
Do I need an epoxy course to use Smooth Prepare?
Investigate if it is mandatory for professionals in your country, to have an epoxy certification. Private individuals do not need an epoxy certification.
Can KABRIC Floor be used in wet rooms?
The KABRIC Floor system tolerates moisture and water impact when you prime with Smooth Prepare and finalize with Strongcoat Silk. The system is, however, not certified for use in wet zones or surfaces where documented vapour- and waterproofing is required.
If you have questions regarding this, please contact us at hello@detalecph.com
Can KABRIC Floor be used on furniture?
We recommend KABRIC over KABRIC Floor on furniture, as KABRIC is easier to apply to objects and vertical areas. It is a good idea to prime the furniture with Prepare first, before applying KABRIC. Finally, remember to give your furniture one of the three types of varnish from the KABRIC Floor system. See our step-by-step guide for KABRIC furniture here.
Can KABRIC Floor be used outdoors?
No, we do not recommend the use of KABRIC Floor outdoors.
Can KABRIC Floor be used on floors with underfloor heating?
Yes, KABRIC Floor can be used on floors with underfloor heating. Be sure to turn off the floor heating before starting the application process. Only when the floor has hardened, the floor heating can be switched on, increasing the temperature slowly and gradually over a few days.
Are KABRIC floor colours identical to KC14 and KABRIC?
KABRIC Floor is available in 25 of the most popular KABRIC and KC14 colours. The three products have unique bases, which means that the colour and texture are not 100% identical. Colours are experienced differently depending on light and angles. The KABRIC floor colours are adapted at a horizontal angle (floor) to KABRIC and KC14 at a vertical angle (wall) in a lighting cabinet, in our colour laboratory.
How to clean KABRIC Floor?
KABRIC Floor can be cleaned with diluted, mild detergents without abrasives. Always use cleaning tools that do not scratch the surface.
Where can KABRIC Floor be purchased?
The KABRIC Floor system can be purchased in our online boutique.
How is EDGE applied?
1)      Apply adhesive on a part of the wall that is equivalent to approximately one and a half of the width of the wallpaper. It is important that the entire area the wallpaper is to be applied to is covered with adhesive. The wall should not be dripping from adhesive, but the thickness of the layer should be sufficient.

2)      Apply the first strip of EDGE wallpaper by holding it up on the wall against the edge of the ceiling. Use a wallpaper brush to brush the wallpaper onto the wall to make it stick. Start from     the centre and work your way outwards towards the edges. Make sure that there are no air bubbles. Avoid getting any adhesive on the front side of the wallpaper.

3)      The process is repeated for the next strip of wallpaper. For Modern Moscow and Sassy Stockholm, you should be aware of aligning the pattern. The wallpaper strips should be fitted directly next to one another without overlapping.

4)      When wallpaper has been fitted on the entire area, use a Stanley knife to make the edges perfect. Any leftover adhesive that has been squeezed up between the strips of wallpaper during the installation should be removed with a damp cloth.
What are the requirements for the underlying surface?
To achieve a nice result, it is important that the wall is smooth. If the surface is not smooth it should be smoothened entirely with filler and then primed. Regular painted felt walls should just be washed and primed before EDGE is mounted.

Wallpaper: Remove any loose wallpaper. For vinyl and textured wallpaper, the outer layer should be removed. Even out uneven overlaps with sandpaper or remove them using a Stanley knife. Gatherings and irregularities should be filled and sanded, after which the surface should be primed before the application of EDGE.

Glass tissue: Wash the surface thoroughly using a basic cleaner followed by clean water. The surface should then be covered with a filler, sanded, and primed before the application of EDGE.

Concrete and plaster: Irregularities in the surface should be evened out with a filler, sanded, and primed before EDGE is applied.
Can I install EDGE myself?
Yes! EDGE is a non-woven quality that is easier to apply on walls than traditional paper wallpaper. Non-woven wallpaper has a paper frontside printed on a backside of felt which has several advantages:
  • Adhesive is applied directly to the wall
  • Non-woven wallpaper does not absorb the adhesive and therefore does not expand
  • Non-woven is easier to remove should you one day wish to do so
What type of wallpaper is EDGE?
EDGE is produced in a non-woven quality as that is easier to apply to your walls than traditional paper wallpaper. Non-woven has a paper frontside printed on a backside of felt.
Which adhesive is recommended?
Applying EDGE wallpaper does not require any specific adhesive. We recommend using any adhesive labelledas suitable for non-woven wallpaper.
What is the environmental profile of EDGE?
FSC certification has been applied for.
How much does one roll cover?
One roll of EDGE measures 10,05m x 0,53m and gives you around 5m2.
How durable is EDGE?
Despite its tactile surface EDGE has a high wash ability corresponding to “3 waves” which means that the surface can be washed carefully with a sponge and lukewarm water if necessary.
How UV resistant is EDGE?
EDGE has a high level of resistance towards reactions to light corresponding to Grade 5/8.
Where can I find colours and receive samples?
If you live in a country where we have no retailers, samples can be purchased in our online boutique.
Is EDGE a stock item?
Overall, EDGE is not a stock item. Some retailers have selected colours in stock and can display samples of all colours. Contact your local retailer for more information.
Can anyone apply SPACE?
SPACE is developed as a do-it-yourself product and therefore, you do not need any experience or to be professional to create your own SPACE wall. When purchasing SPACE, a detailed user guide is enclosed, to guide you through the process. Not two SPACE walls are the same and part of the charm of SPACE is that you put your own personal touch on the wall. We recommend reading the user guide here.
What is the difference between SPACE One Tone and SPACE Two Tone?
SPACE One Tone will appear as tone in tone and can be easier to apply since it is not as sensitive to the layer thickness as SPACE Two Tone.
SPACE Two Tone will appear as two-coloured, due to the metals that sporadically will create contrasts in the finishing result. SPACE Two Tone must be applied in ultra-thin layers and the effect in the final look will be activated after the application.
How many m2 does SPACE cover?
The best things come in small packages and that applies to SPACE as well. 1L covers approx. 8-10 square meters. The sq. meters -reach, preconditions a foundation that is fully plastered with sand plaster, sanded and primed.
How long does it take to finish up one wall with SPACE?
SPACE in itself only takes a very short amount of time to apply and it absorbs into the foundation and dries immediately. If your foundation is not already plastered with sand plaster, this should be done in a minimum of one day prior, for it to dry before the application of fixed primer. When the Fixed primer is dry, SPACE can be applied.
Does a SPACE wall require Topcoat or other surface treatment?
SPACE is a decoration product for walls exposed to normal household wear. If you wish to apply SPACE on a wall exposed to more wear, the wall should additionally, be sealed with a matte varnish.
Can SPACE be refitted and mended?
Repairs will often be visible and should therefore be avoided. Sometimes, if you are lucky, repairs can be made to appear as part of the lively look.
Tip:
If you got leftovers of SPACE paste, store it in a plastic bag to keep oxygen from entering. Make sure that storage conditions are dark and cool but never below 0 degrees Celsius. That way you have some extra if needed for future projects.
How can SPACE be upheld and maintained?
Due to the lively finish of SPACE dirt and stains can be difficult to see. A SPACE wall can be wiped off using a damp cloth, but if you wish to be able to wash it off often a varnish should be applied to finalize.
Where can SPACE be applied?
SPACE can be applied to indoor walls and ceilings. It is important that the foundation is dry, sustainable and is equally absorbent throughout, before the wall is plastered, sanded, and primed.
Can SPACE be applied to other surfaces than sanded and primed filler?
Yes, one can apply SPACE to another kind of surface, but the final look will be different, depending on the underlying surface you have as a starting point.
Can SPACE be applied in basements?
Due to the risk of moist and humid conditions, we discourage the use of any DETALE-products in basements.
How long does it take for SPACE to dry?
The SPACE paste absorbs into the foundation at application, so the wall will appear as final after just a few minutes past application. 24 hours after the application SPACE will have fully hardened.
To which surfaces can SPACE be applied?
The SPACE paste should be applied to a sand-plastered, sanded, and primed surface. It is important that the wall is 100% even and uniform. Our recommendation is to use a medium, greyish sand plaster of good quality and a fixed primer.
What is the difference between SPACE, KC14 and KABRIC?
KC14 is a coloured filler, KABRIC is a thick paint and SPACE is a metal paste. All three products are decor product for walls, but the preparation work, the application process and the finishing result are different from each other. We, therefore, recommend that you learn about the different structures and application techniques the three different products have, before purchasing.
Can a SPACE-wall be renewed?
The wall should be thoroughly sanded using grain 120 before the wall can be treated with a new product.
